Quinn’s Alternative Medieval Prices

A small add on for D&D 5e that provides alternative prices for Tools, Animals and Adventuring Gear, re-balancing them to be more historically accurate. While it was designed for D&D, it would probably work with Pathfinder and other similar systems. The prices set here were based primarily around Kenneth Hodges' (UC Berkeley) medieval price lists.

Prices in this list are balanced around a "modest" or average lifestyle, representing the average cost of goods.

Features:

  • Handmade items such as clothing and musical instruments, and luxury items like perfume and makeup, are significantly more expensive.

  • Items that would normally be made by people themselves have gotten less expensive.

  • Tool kits have been completely re-priced based on their content as described in XGTE.

  • Animals have been re-priced based on their historical values. These are priced only for the initial purchase of the animal, not upkeep.

  • Lifestyle expenses and the cost of basic trade goods and services have not changed, and been balanced around, so the value of items stays intuitive and easy to pick up.
